4E is wide and my feet don't hurt.Good cushioning.I wanted to write a review on these shoes as it is very dificult to find shoes that fit properly. First off i think these are the most comfortable and supportive shoe i have ever had bar none. There is not much break in period a couple days and they fit like a glove. I have high arches and these shoes really provide great mid support/balance. First let me give you an idea as to the sizing by comparing another shoe i wear. One of my other favorite par of jogging or on my feet 12 hours a day (WORK SHOE) is the brooks glycerin15, in version fifteen I wore a 12M. Now just to show you how shoe size changes in the current brooks glycerin17 I had to get a 12.5W (wide). Because of the changing in size of the new brooks which i do have but do not like as much as the 15 I started trying different brands. The only other brand I found which felt great were these New Ballance 1080v9 but i found New Ballance shoes run extremely tight or skinny. So for this shoe my size is a 12XW or 124E, in this size they fit and feel better than any other shoe i have ever worn. I am 40 go to the gym 5 days a week, i have had back issues for 20 years which affects my running, walking, etc. These shoes definitely help, not cure, but help me get through the day. I stand all day because i have nerve issues when I sit which cause my feet to burn like fire so I started wearing these and my glycerin17 verse work shoes while at work and when i workout and between the two of these shoes they really help me get through the day. I highly recommend them. Side note, shoe brands change the way a specific shoe fits from year to year so the only way you will know if a pair fit is to try them on. When you find a pair which fit get as many as you can afford. I just baught my second pair and plain on getting at least three or four more pairs to put away as i hate trying to find good shoes that fit and these companies dont understand the concept of if it's not broken don't fix it or change a perfect shoe!!! And one other thing when it comes to your feet dont be a cheap ASS when buying shoes and get shoes that fit properly if you plan on being on your feet when you get older, or invest in a wheelchair now.Cheers!I love these New Balance Men's Fresh Foam 1080 V9 Running Shoes. I have purchased at least two pair of these from AMazon as well as a pair from my local running store. They are comfortable and offer amazing support. I am a big guy (6'3" 230lbs) and I often get hurt knees and ankles when running longer distance, let's say over 5 miles. These shoes never give me knee pain. There is a tremendous amount of cushioning.I used to own the New Balance Men's Fresh Foam 1080 V8 Running Shoe and these are a nice upgrade to them. I also tried the version 10 but did not like the style. The fit and comfort of the V10 were really good, but I think they were much less stylish and a little uglier than the New Balance Men's Fresh Foam 1080 V9.I have one pair that I use for running on the beach, or on the trail, which allows me to get them a little dirtier and they degrade a bit faster. The other pair I take good care of so I can run on the pavement. The ombre color is extremely stylish and I get a ton of complements on these shoes. So, overall I would recommend them for anyone who either runs alot, works out alot, like comfortable shoes, or has knee or joint pain. THese shoes are 100% a five star product. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.I had the v7 for about a year before switching to the v8 for another year, and now the v9. I think the v9 is the best yet. Lightweight, yes, but whoa ... not cheap and “paper thin” as one critic said. Enough there to serve as a typical serious running shoe for 4 months or so and/or a long-lasting walkabout shoe - if you need mountain boots, move along. Nothing to see here.To me, the v7 was relatively ‘beefy’ - a great walking shoe but a bit heavy for constant serious running. The v8 was a redesign that went much lighter - but maybe some things weren’t thought through as much as they could have been for longevity (entire sole design not as durable or stable, laces kinda cheap(ish), top eyelets not hard-reinforced, overall ‘soft’ foot cradling). This current v9 seems to have brought the adults back into the room for a world-class improvement. The laces are awesome - premium quality and grippy - the top stress eyelets are (yay!) reinforced, and the entire foot cradle/cushion seems to be one unit with the bottom tread securely attached. The entire heel cradle area is simple yet soft, supportive, and sturdy.I think it will be hard to improve on the design of the v9 save maybe a few millimeters more cushioning, but what’s there now is great. Highly recommended!I want to start this off with people who may be scared of the "Neutral" label these shoes have. I'll just say I've worn Neutral shoes before, and these are very stable on your feet. They're not helping any under or over pronation, but they are firm. Now, about the cushioning. Woo boy, I don't think I've quite felt a shoe that is both extremely cushioned and supportive at the same time. A lot of shoes claim to be this, but this is just... special. I can't feel the ground underneath my feet as a walk, there's a ton of spring to this shoe, but it feels solid. The fit is really nice too, I have wide feet and after the first day the mesh upper has stretched to feel very comfortable.Lastly, I'm a big guy. 250 pounds. And these shoes hold up very nicely, the cushioning seems to be holding up well.Overall I'm completely satisfied. I thought it couldn't get much better than Ultraboosts, but I can genuinely say I enjoy wearing these more.Oh, did I mention how freaking awesome they look?**Update** after a year, they're still holding up nicely with my weight and there's little to no foot pain after 9 hour shifts. Couldn't be happier.I really was not to sure how it would work out with these shoes, but I had a hunch they might work out ok. I was pleased to see Amazon stocked my size with the wide fit. I typically always get a wide shoe for my feet. I often run in Altras. As to what sort of runner I am, I would say high mileage of up to and over 50 miles a week.My first impressions were if concern. The heel feels like it's going to irritate and possibly blister, but when running it proves to be no issue. The upper is a nice kind of knit material common of many shoes nowadays. The cushioning feels great out of the box.The 1080v9's are very much long run , recovery comfort shoes. You could use them for speed work, but there are better shoes out there.I am writing this after a 22 Mike run this morning and I am very happy with the shoes. For the whole run my feet felt great. There were no hotspots or areas of discomfort. In fact at the end of the run, my legs were a little battered, but my feet felt fine. I am now considering a 2nd pair as spares.I will update this review when I hit a 150 miles plus, where I can gain a good insight into their durability.I tried my normal 8.5 but they were too small so I ordered a 9, the left was perfect but the right was a little tight so I sent them back, I changed my mind and had amazon return them to me, so glad I did.I have bi-lateral plantar fasciitis and heel spurs, for years I've worn trainers with orthotic insoles, not really comfortable, but the only way I could walk. After 15 years or so, this combination seemed to not work anymore, giving me more pain than it solved. Looking for solutions, I came across cushioned running shoes and specifically these 1080v9s.I cannot believe how pain free my feet are when walking, I still can't stand still for more than a few minutes, but walking is fabulous. I actually got quite emotional about being out and about without pain, wearing great looking shoes with no silly insoles. It's a game changer, I feel like dancing, in fact I often do if I think I won't be seen. I feel a little bit normal again. Thank you New Balance, I love these trainers!!!I've been an Asics fan most of my life - or rather all the iterations of the Kayano - and I still am. However, on the strength of a good review in RW recently I decided to give these a go. These are a really good pair of runners, well made, good support, comfortable on the run and they feel a lot lighter than what I am normally used to with the Kayano. For speed sessions, racing or chasing down a PB the NB 1080D's are worth looking at. However, I will admit my experience of various other brands is limited (hence my reliance on the RW review when purchasing these). They work for me though!I'm a big fan of New Balance, they just seem to fit my feet better than other brands. This is no exception. I've been running in the NB Zante all summer so this is gonna be my trainer for the winter months. These shoes are quite comfy. The soles are not as soft as I would have liked(like the Adidas ultraboost) but still good enough. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because they not as wide as I had expected so I keep getting blister after every few miles run.
