I usually don't need a wide in New Balance, but I did with the Fresh Foam More Trail v1. Once I got the wider size, it met all of my expectations. It is comfortable for walking and running, feels stable and grips the trail well even on a wet day. New Balance claims the shoe is water resistant. It is! I hiked a trail after a rain and even walked through 20 yards of very wet, high, wild grass that was a little boggy in spots. When I came out of the grass there was a lot of water on the surface of the shoes, but after 10 - 15 minutes of further hiking I looked down and all the water was gone - the surface of the shoes were dry. The rubber sole comes up fairly high around the sides of the shoe as well, which protects against getting wet in shallow puddles and boggy areas. After the hike I checked my socks and the inside of the shoes - both were bone dry! If I had hiked the same path with my other running shoes, they would have been wet through.
